There are tonnes of good restaurants in this area and this one must be avoided at all costs. I have been to many places both in London and around the globe. While it looks nice enough this has to be the rudest restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. To go to a supposed 'gastro' pub and be told that they won't serve you drinks that are too heavy because it will mean the staff have to walk up one (yes one) flight of stairs is quite extrordinary. The waitress was fine but the portly head of the restaurant clearly didn't want anyone in her joint messing it up during the recession but giving them custom.
Quite frankly- the sooner this restaurant goes bust the better as it will allow people who care about service, food and wine to take over. Utterly utterly dreadful. I am forced by the system to give it one star - but that is 0.5 of a point too much.

This is a little gem hidden up a flight of stairs above Ground Floor Bar (get it!) on Portobello Road. It's stylishly turned out in antique faded chic with big old chandeliers and stripped floorboards. It's mainly remarkable in being available pretty much anytime without booking! That's not to dis it, but that is a serious plus - try getting into any of the restaurants on Ken Park Road! Service and ambience are good - not many tables and it's not noisy. Food is pretty good without being exceptionable. It's a bit discreet as opposed to its "more bling" neighbour on the other side of Portobello - The Electric.

We dined at First Floor last night and the experience was perfect in every way. Great food, service and value. One of our favourite London restaurants.
The food was excellent, as was the service, the resturant decor is very opulent and makes the evening very enjoyable.

Well, what can we say? My lady friend picked this place out from reviews on this site and others . On arrival we were slightly dismayed over the unconventional menu, indeed in the starter section there was not one dish that even remotely tickled our taste buds and that extended to the main course and pudding!!
