The Museum of Garden History: An oasis of calm in Lambeth
There’s an oasis of calm in the middle of London that you may well have no idea existed. The Museum of Garden History is the world’s first and is housed in the restored church of St Mary-at-Lambeth, adjacent to Lambeth Palace.
In the grounds are the tombs of the John Tradescants and Captain Bligh of the Bounty. The Museum’s permanent collection encompasses one of the largest collections of historic garden tools, artefacts and curiosities as well as an expanding library of books. Alongside the Museum is a replica 17th century knot garden, designed by the Marchioness of Salisbury, who is also the President of the Museum of Garden History.
