Birds Eye View - Emerging Women Filmmakers
The world of directing blockbusters is thoroughly taken over by men, with very few female exceptions making it to the local multiplexes and the award show stages. However there are plenty of women out there far more interested in making their mark behind the camera than pouting and preening in front of it and the aptly named Bird’s Eye View Film Festival celebrates those very chicks and tits that are are bringing filmmaking in to a woman’s world.
Patronised by some of the film industry’s biggest names, including Anthony Minghella, Joanna Lumley and Mike Figgis, the festival brings you a week of incredible work from some of the most exciting emerging faces in film. When the festival was launched in 2005 it was greeted with rapture from film buffs, male and female alike, and has already established itself as one of the most important and inspiring events on the film calendar. It’s success is thanks to an eclectic programme of screenings, celebrity appearances, Q&A sessions, masterclasses and live music, as well as the oh-so-glamorous closing awards ceremony at BAFTA which sees top women recognised for their work and rewards the creator of the finest film on the festival programme.
2010 delivers nine days jam-packed with over 70 events, with breathtaking films from all corners of the globe including two-time Oscar nominee Frozen River, the UK premiere of Cannes Critics Week winner, Sundance’s best-loved docs, and the hottest Screen Seductresses of all time. Plus one-off live music events, hot debate, an introduction to Nollywood, fashion films, training workshops, parties and much, much more.
Events will take place at the BFI Southbank, ICA, The Gate Cinema, and Picturehouse Cinemas across the UK on International Women’s Day (March 8th).
